Our Story
In 2005, Tom Mitlo was called by God to stand in the gap between the “haves” and “have-nots” by dedicating the space in his garage for gathering and distributing household essentials. Two years later, with help from the Deacons of Hebron Church in Penn Hills, The Blessing Board (TBB) became a reality.
TBB was then housed in a medium storage unit, and soon grew to include five units. In February of 2010, TBB expanded to include ten units and a three-story church rental property. Soon this space became insufficient, prompting the search for a larger warehouse location with a loading dock. Today, with the help of more than 200 volunteers, TBB operates out of an office and four warehouses in the Penn Hills Industrial Park on Frey Road.
Since its inception thousands of families throughout Allegheny County have received blessings from The Blessing Board. Over 500 calls are currently received per month and, due to space constraints, on average only 50 of those families can be helped.
As you can imagine, the opportunities to bless others are enormous and there is a constant need for support to keep the blessings flowing.
