In 2007, Jesus called Thomas J. Mitlo, Jr. to begin The Blessing Board. Tom recognized that many people around him were in need of items that others had but were willing to give away. Quickly an idea developed to post on a bulletin board lists of “Blessings Needed” and “Blessings to Be Given. ” The deacons of his church embraced this idea and The Blessing Board was born.

In 2010 The Blessing Board became a stand-alone 501(c)(3) organization with the vision of “loving our neighbors” by providing furniture and household goods, at no cost, to those who needed them.

Over the years, the footprint of The Blessing Board has grown from a garage, to rented storage units, to a house, then to a small warehouse, and finally to its current location – a 46,000 square foot warehouse and office space in Oakmont, PA with an additional 5,000 square foot location in McKeesport.  The Blessing Board averages 800 calls a month for assistance and is on track to helping 1,300 families this year.  The small staff at The Blessing Board could not possibly bless this many people without the service of dedicated volunteers — nearly 1,000 men, women & children in 2017!

Since its inception, The Blessing Board has blessed thousands of families throughout Allegheny County in the name of Jesus Christ. Everyone associated with The Blessing Board has been profoundly blessed by God through the years. As Jesus said, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” We remain totally committed to continuing to furnish homes with love while providing families with hope for their future.

Thank you for all you do to help The Blessing Board to continue to serve those in need.

Mission, Vision and Values

Our Mission

The Blessing Board exists to provide donated household furnishings to those in need at no cost in response to what God has done for us.

Our Vision

Everyone engaged in The Blessing Board, whether serving or being served, experiences wholeness.

Our Core Values

For by grace you have been saved through faith.  And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of his works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
