In 2007 The Blessing Board was born within the confines of one church in Penn Hills the simple idea was that there were some people that had furniture and household items to give and there were those that had none.
Quickly an idea developed to post on a bulletin board lists of “Blessings Needed” and “Blessings to Be Given.” The people of this church embraced this idea and The Blessing Board was born and ready to serve those in need.
In 2010 The Blessing Board became a stand-alone 501(c)(3) organization with the vision of “loving our neighbors” by providing furniture and household goods, at no cost, to those who needed them.
Over the years, the footprint of The Blessing Board has grown from a garage, to rented storage units, to a house, then to a small warehouse, and finally to its current location – a 46,000 square foot warehouse and office space in Oakmont, PA with an additional 5,000 square foot location in McKeesport. The Blessing Board averages 800 calls a month for assistance and is on track to helping 1,700 families this year.
The small staff at The Blessing Board could not possibly bless this many people without the service of dedicated volunteers — nearly 500 men, women & children in 2018!
In October of 2017 the Board of Directors chose Rich Garland to serve as the Interim Executive Director and oversaw a strong 2018 when 1458 families were served, and the organization reenergized the volunteer and donor base. January 2019 The Board of Directors elected Garland as full-time Executive Director.
