The Blessing Board is grateful to accept gently used household furniture items and home furnishing accessories. We require that items be free from heavy stains, rips and tears, and any conditions such as pet hair, cigarette smoke, urine, bed bugs, dry rot or mold.
Furniture donated to The Blessing Board is re-donated to families in financial hardship. These families may be victims of fire or flood, mothers with children escaping domestic violence, veterans, recovering addicts or families experiencing other tragic circumstances. Your donations may help provide items such as beds for children sleeping on floors or household goods to help families meet their most basic needs.
Who can donate to The Blessing Board?
We accept donations from individuals, churches, universities, businesses, community groups, and organizations. If you are interested in donating your gently used furniture, you can fill out an Online Donation Form or contact our donations coordinator at 412-828-1023 or email at donate@theblessingboard.org.
How are furniture donations received?
You can drop off your donations at either our Shaler or West Mifflin locations. For drop off information and hours click here. There is never a fee for dropping off. If you are in need of a pick up, we set appointments Monday through Thursday in morning and afternoon blocks. Our morning block is between 8:00am and 1:00pm. Our afternoon block is between 11:00pm and 2:00pm. Someone 18 years or older must be present at the time of the pick up.
Why is there a fee for having furniture picked up?
Fees cover the cost of drivers and maintenance of the trucks. Our drivers work extremely hard and move an average of 2 complete households of furniture every day. Operating costs included gas, insurance, tires, inspections, any anything else needed to keep our trucks operational and our drivers picking up donated furniture for families in need. The fees are based on details, such as the number of items, the difficulty of the move and the distance traveled.
How are we different from other organizations that pick up furniture?
- We will come into the house and pick up furniture from multiple levels.
- We are serving families in need in our own communities.
- We are eco-friendly as our ministry is repurposing furniture that would end up in a landfill.
